April Fools is a short film challenge and festival celebrating comedy filmmaking in Malta.
Filmmakers are invited to create bold, funny, ridiculous, shocking, clever, stupid, smart, chaotic, or completely unhinged comedy shorts — made for a big-screen audience that came to laugh.
Films must be short comedy films.
Films must be created specifically for the challenge.
Films must be completed by the official submission deadline.
Teams can be made up of professionals, students, first-timers, or complete lunatics.
Boundary-pushing comedy is encouraged — but films must still be screenable in a public cinema.
AI tools may be used only where they solve a genuine production problem.
